Chris Kirby-Lambert

I am a professional invertebrate ecologist, specialising in the survey and assessment of terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates. I have over twenty years of entomological experience and have worked as an ecological consultant for seventeen of those. For the last twelve years I have worked as an independent entomological consultant.

Over this time I have become familiar with the species level identification and ecological requirements of a broad range of invertebrate taxa and have accumulated considerable experience of site assessment based on invertebrate assemblages. I have additional experience in conducting autecological work targeted at priority invertebrate species, use of GIS programs for mapping, and experience of a range of botanical survey methodologies. I am also also a keen wildlife photographer and traveller.

Since 2013 I have provided specialist invertebrate surveys, training, desk studies and local and strategic invertebrate focussed ecological and management advice to a variety of clients including Natural England, The Environment Agency, The National Trust, The Wildlife Trusts, Buglife, the Langdyke Trust, Plantlife, Froglife, The Freshwater Habitats Trust and the Open University. I have also provided specialist surveys for many ecological and environmental consultancies working on commercial sites owned by Network Rail, Anglian Water, the Ministry of Defence, the Jockey Club, Tarmac, Raymond Brown, Sibelco and  Forterra (formerly Hanson).

In addition to paid consultancy and teaching work I sit on the Joint Technical Advisory Committee (JTAC) for the Great Fen Project, providing expert input on invertebrate ecology and management and am a voluntary invertebrate recorder for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Ecological Records Centre (CPERC).
